Charcoal and fragrance

I've read that some soapers use clays to "anchor" or protect fragrance in their soap. Would charcoal do the same thing? Or would it diminish the scent, since it is an "odor absorber"?
Anyone have any experience with this?

I make charcoal soap, and sometimes I just add it for color in swirls, and don’t recall it haven’t much of an effect on fragrances but I don’t typically use much scent, and never fragrance oils. That’s a great question!
