Cocoa Bar, Modified

Notes:
  • I'm using rice water and instant coffee to make the liquid coffee. So last night I took 280g of the rice water, heated it for 30 secs in the microwave & dissolved 70g e/ of white sugar and citric acid. I then put the solution in the fridge.
  • Today I'm doing the rest of the batch work. Melting the solid fats, & mixing in the liquid oils in the crock pot in the garage. Good thing it's in the 80s out there. The kitchen is in the mid-60s.
  • I'm needing to rework the formula a bit. My cocoa butter arrived so I added 95g so now I have 300g total CB, plus I only had 285g Beef Tallow, & I'm adding a bare 5g Castor oil to recipe so it's now 3%. It's not much but it's me. Last to go into the bucket is the coconut oil because it won't fit in the crock. The heat from the lye solution and the heated fats will finish melting it. The garage is now in the low 90s. If it doesn't melt in the SS bowl, it'll melt with the rest of the fats.
  • Added the mixture of the citric acid, the sugar, with the rice water and coffee into the crockpot, and stirred it in, then left it. This was on Tues, 23rd. Too hot and had allergy headache, to work in the garage. Everything else is prepped.
  • Made the soap Aug 27, 2022, early afternoon. Finally some cool weather! In the mid-70s, and not too humid. Michael helped me out with pouring, even though he quit when his pouring wasn't too neat, it was enough help. I think it came out to about 50 4oz bars, so about 12 ½ lbs of soap. Not too shabby.
  • Today, the 28th of Aug, both Michael and Jack Jack helped me unmold the soaps. They were very happy to do it. They kept saying how good it smelled, and if I was sure if they couldn't eat it. It does smell a bit like freshly baked oatmeal cookies that have maple syrup added. Kinda like butterscotch. Strange. I hope the soaps keep some of that nice scent.
  • I won't be able to update on these soaps since I'm leaving the State on Fri, Sept 1st, and not planning to come back soon. I'll ask Nicky, my son how they do eventually, but it won't be the same. Maybe I'll kidnap one to keep an eye on its development.
