Prickly Pear Shaving Soap (Modified CP Method)

Notes:
UTILIZE THE MODIFIED COLD PROCESS METHOD
SAFETY FIRST:
Suit up for safe handling practices! That means goggles, gloves and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, and other distractions and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your soaping space. Always soap in a well-ventilated area.
FRAGRANCE PREP: Coffee & Whiskey (Scented Expressions) - Acceleration: UNK / Color After Cure: UNK / Ricing: UNK / Separation: UNK / Scent Retention: UNK / Flash Point: >200F / Vanilla Content: 0% / IFRA 22.73%
Measure out 245 FO in an essential oil safe container. Add 1 TBSP (8g ppo) of kaolin clay (1 tsp/lb of oils) to FO in order to anchor the FO/EO and add 3 TBSP (84g) of bentonite clay (2 tsp/lb of soap) to provide slip for a close, non-irritating shave. Set aside.
GLYCERIN & SODIUM LACTATE PREP: Measure 405g (15% of weight of butters & oils) of glycerine or infused glycerite and set aside. Measure 2 TBSP (38g) of sodium lactate (1 tsp per lb of oils) and set aside.

Shaving Soap Process
Step 1 – Wearing safety gear, make your lye solution by weighing out the lye and water into separate containers. Carefully add the lye to the water stirring carefully. Add a pinch of tussah silk fibers to the lye water and set aside.
Step 2 – Heat the hard butters & oils to between 160F and 170F ensuring they are completely melted.
Step 3 – When the lye water is between 150F and 180F, slowly pour lye water using a strainer to strain out left over fibers, into the butters & oils, which should be between 160F and 170F. Use stick blender to mix until combined.
Step 4 – Stir in glycerin, fragrance/essential oils, and sodium lactate. Stir by hand until well incorporated and mixture is not separated. Stir by hand until soap becomes thinner & smoother, about 2-10 minutes.
Step 5 – If soap is cohesive and thinned out with a shiny appearance, pour/scoop the soap into your molds. Tap containers on a firm surface to remove air pockets. Allow to cool completely before covering if using individual molds.
Step 6 – Spritz the top of the soap with 99% isopropyl alcohol to help prevent soda ash.
Step 7 – Allow to sit and harden for 1-3 days. Unmold and cut into pucks. Spray all bars with 99% IP alcohol. Cure soaps for 4-6 weeks before using.
Oil Weights
1 puck (Individual Pucks Silicone Mold) - 72.8g per puck cavity with final weight of 116.07g per puck.
12 pucks (Individual Pucks Silicone Mold) - 873.6g with final weight of 1392.87g.
36 pucks (Individual Pucks Silicone Mold) - 2620.8g with final weight of 4238.36g.
Other variations of the mold can be figured out by using the soap mold calculator equation i.e.
LxWxH= # take that # and multiply by .4 and that equals total ounces.
